Electricity providers around the world are under immense pressure to reduce power outages and to maximise the quality of supply to their customers. Traditional protection schemes using recloser systems drastically improve the availability of supply on overhead feeders. To further improve the availability of supply, it is necessary to increase the level of sophistication in overhead feeders.
In order to maintain continuous development we are working closely with utilities to develop automated solutions focussing on the reduction of customer minutes lost. The solutions generally focus on:
Loop Automation is designed to reduce outage times where an alternate source of supply is available. Automatic Changeover quickly restores power to critical loads such as hospitals. Sectionalisers improve feeder segmentation and further reduce the impact of permanent faults. To improve response times we developed a change of state alert feature included in the configuration tool, WSOS. This features contacts and warns operators of any network abnormality.
WSOS can also be used to download analytical data from the feeders and to remotely control the switchgear in the field via a communications link.
Generator control is designed to automatically start a standby generator in the event of a prolonged outage.
